Rebecca Winn Obituary

WINN, Rebecca Rebecca Oberthier Winn passed away on August 25, 2022, in Dallas at the age of 66 after a year-long battle with cancer. Rebecca was born on December 29, 1955 to Frederick Holmsley Oberthier and Betty Muir Ogden. After growing up abroad she graduated from Highland Park High School in 1974 and earned a BFA at SMU in 1978. The next year, she met her husband, David Winn. Their son, Alexander Burton Winn, was born in 1986. In 1995, Rebecca started Whimsical Gardens, a landscaping company, and later created the Facebook blog Whimsical Gardens, inspiring hundreds of thousands of readers around the globe each day. In 2020, Rebecca published One Hundred Daffodils, a memoir that reflected on nature as a metaphor, a sanctuary, and a teacher. Rebecca's wit, humor, and gentle wisdom will be very much missed by those who've known her. Rebecca is survived by her son Alexander Winn, his wife Lacey Hannan, granddaughters Thea Marlow Winn and Evelyn Circe Winn, sister Betsy Oberthier Main, her husband Gregg Main, and the families of Andrew Main and Emily Main Heller. A memorial service will be planned with details to be posted on Rebecca's Facebook page.
