Nan Elizabeth Selecman Schaefer, known as "Betsi," died Monday, August 7th, 2023, after a nearly two-and-a-half-year battle with brain cancer. She passed away in hospice care with her three daughters by her side. Some of her last words were singing along to her favorite music and many whispers of "I love you, too."
Betsi is preceded in death by her husband of almost 22 years, Wes Schaefer; her older sister, Cyndy Morgan; and her parents, Charles Edward Selecman and Nan Nash Jones.
She is survived by her daughters and their families, which include Shannon Schaefer Perri, her husband, Chris Perri, and their four-year-old son, Amos Perri; Shelby Schaefer and her fiancé, Chris Lonergan; and Sheridan Schaefer and her partner, Morgan Connor. She also leaves behind her loving partner of over ten years, Ken Jeffries; her younger sister, Amie Selecman; and her nieces and nephew, Taylor Morgan Peele, Michelle Troutt Blaser, and Matthew Troutt; her best friend, Barbara Burleson; and countless more cherished family members, friends, and coworkers.
Whether it be her children, rescue animals, or real estate clients, Betsi will forever be known as someone who dedicated her life to caring for others. Nothing gave her a bigger smile than feeding her goats and miniature donkey, Willie, with the help of her grandson, or spending an afternoon shopping with her girls in Wimberley, followed of course by happy hour margaritas, chips and salsa, and live music beneath the Cypress trees. Above all, she believed in showing up for others, the sanctity of every life story, and savoring the beauty of Texas. Her legacy of kindness, compassion, and joy will live on through the many human and animal lives she touched.
Her memorial service will be on Tuesday, August 15th, at 2:00 p.m., at the Thomason Funeral Home on 14700 Ranch Road 12 in Wimberley, Texas, followed by a reception celebrating her life at The Waters Point. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made in her honor to the Wimberley Adoption Group & Rescue. Donations can be made online at https://www.wimberleywagrescue.org.
