Obituary for Mr. Clayton Sanders Baird
Sanders Baird, age 60, passed away August 21, 2016 in Carthage, Texas after a lengthy illness. He was born June 15, 1956 in Galveston, Texas, the third of five children, to Bill and Virginia Baird. He grew up in Dallas and attended Highland Park High School. Growing up, Sanders loved being at our family’s place at Lake Murvaul in deep East Texas. In 2003 Sanders, his wife Deb, and son Hampton moved to the lake where he became the go-to builder of piers, boat docks and seawalls. Sanders’ enthusiasm for each new day was truly intoxicating and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Sanders is preceded in death by his father, William David Baird, M.D. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Deborah Watkins Baird; his son, Hampton Griswold Baird; his mother, Virginia Sanders Baird; his sisters, Linda Baird Moore and husband Frank, Cindy Baird Matthews and husband Tom, Ginger Baird Stark and husband Jim, and brother Davies Baird; four nephews and one niece; and many friends who have been by his side since high school. Private family services will be held. Donations may be made to Heart’s Way Hospice, 4351 McCann Rd., Longview, TX 75605 or Sammy Brown Library, 319 Market St., Carthage, TX 75633.

San was always full of energy and had a great personality. San and I were very close thru high school and after that he came to work for several years at our company the Mail Mart. San lived life to the fullest, living in Preston Towers and owning serveral Corvette's. We spent many weekends at his famiy's lake house on Lake Murvall where we skied, fished and partied. Later in life San moved to Lake Murvall where he lived until his death. I'll always remember him as his birthday and mine were only 6 days apart. I miss him and think of him often

San and his family moved to University Park in the summer of 1966, in time for San to start the 5th grade at University Park Elementary school. He was the "new kid" in Mrs. Rogers classroom, and probably sat next to me, as we became fast friends. One of my best and closest friends for 50 years, until the day he passed.
Adventurous and fearless, he took on any challenge that came to him, and lived life to the fullest with a great attitude towards any adversity.
San and I went to Six Flags on my 14th birthday, when we got back to my house at 11:00 PM, my new motorcycle was waiting for me in front yard. I had no driver's license, but we rode around University Park all night until 7:00 A.M. the next morning. "Mi Compadre".
San had many friends, and many adventures he experienced with them, a few classmates of note, Theron Funk, Jamie Huffaker, and David Bower, he was especially close with.
I brought San in to help me on some concerts and festivals I produced. One festival in particular, in 2002 I took San with me to San Jose Del Cabo as my site coordinator to produce a 3 night/5 event Labor Day weekend festival called Mextravaganza.
Above and beyond his contracted duties on site, he video taped the 9 day experience. 4 days of doing absolutely nothing constructive due to Mexican government blockades and manipulations. At times seriously wondering and joking about if we were going to spend the rest of our lives in a mexican prison.
Then we created a concert venue on a beach with 27 hours to show time, and we pulled it off.
Before he passed, he gave me a souvenir he brought back with him from that Mexico trip that I will cherish for life.
